Twenty-one companies, and not one of them plays without documents

From the list of granted licences

The list of granted individual licences at 1 September 2026 has 134 rows and 39 companies. 21 of them hold a licence for internet games in an internet casino. The file comes in CSV and XLSX and anyone can download it.

The white market side has a name and a number

Úrad pre reguláciu hazardných hier publishes the list of granted individual licences. The version we downloaded carries the date 1 September 2026, has 134 rows and 39 companies. Each row gives the company name, IČO, validity from and to, the name and code of the gambling game, and its type.

A licence to run internet games in an internet casino is a separate type, fifteenth in the act's enumeration. Twenty-one companies hold it in the register at that date:

The monopoly of a single state operator on online casino ended with zákon č. 30/2019 Z. z. The register shows it exactly: TIPOS is one of twenty-one names, not the only one.

Twenty-one is not few. But it is a finite number and it is public.

The page listing the individual gambling licences that have been granted

The file as at 1 September 2026 has 134 rows and 39 companies. Twenty-one of them hold a licence to run internet games in an internet casino. It is published in both CSV and XLSX.

Why 134 rows but only 39 companies

The register is not a list of firms but of authorisations. A company has as many rows as types of gambling game it may run, so rows outnumber names threefold.

Each row gives six items: company name, IČO, validity from, validity to, the name and code of the gambling game, and its type. That pair of dates makes the file a tool, not just a list. It says from when until when an authorisation holds, and no casino page gives that more precisely than the register. Brands missing from it are summed up in one table: foreign casinos without a Slovak licence.

The internet casino authorisation is only one of those types. Hence twenty-one of the thirty-nine hold it and the rest have other kinds of game in the register.

Checking who dropped out or was added is dull and reliable. Download the current edition, compare it with an older one; the difference is the answer. How a new online casino is dated that way is described elsewhere.

Who may apply for a licence at all

§ 36(1) sets the first condition before any game:

A licence may be granted or issued only to a legal person seated in the territory of the Slovak Republic or in another member state.

In a Slovak company with foreign ownership, those owners must come from a European Union or OECD state. And under subsection 2 a company seated in another member state gets a licence only with a registered foreign branch.

The whole difference between the two sides of the market rests on this condition. A brand registered in Curaçao or Anjouan does not fit § 36, whatever licence number it publishes. What such a number proves and what it does not is taken apart by foreign licences; what that sentence means for the other side is set out by foreign online casino.

The free number is 0800 131 000, and +421 587 875 800 from abroad. The line is run by OLÚP Predná Hora, a specialist hospital, and is funded from the state budget and from voluntary contributions.

Why the licensed side is also the side with documents

A licence carries obligations the operator does not choose. Registration and four identifying details are set by § 31, documents by § 33(1), the login screen by § 32. Both sections are on registration without documents.

From this follows what advertising for quick registration usually leaves unsaid. The same licence that lets an operator work in Slovakia forbids it to let you play without documents. Not two independent features, then, but one.

Added to that is a check you get nowhere else. At every player login the operator of an internet game must check the register of excluded persons, kept by the regulator under § 33. Self-exclusion entered there covers the whole licensed side at once, and outside it nothing; the detail is in what the law says.

And finally an address for a complaint. A licence holder is supervised by the regulator, so a dispute has somewhere to go. With a brand without one, the only instance is the brand itself and perhaps its issuing authority; the Slovak regulator will not help there and we do not pretend otherwise.

How to open the register and what to look for in it

The file is published in CSV and XLSX and opens in any spreadsheet. The practical procedure has three steps.

First download the current edition and look at its date. The register speaks of the state at that day and no other; our copy is from 1 September 2026.

Then narrow the column with the type of gambling game to internet casino. That turns 134 rows into 21 names — the whole list of operators allowed to offer such a game in Slovakia.

Finally look at the pair of validity dates on the row you want. An authorisation has an end and it is written in the file; a brand licensed today need not be a year from now.

If a company is missing from that narrowed list, the answer is unambiguous and needs no interpretation. For the other direction — addresses the regulator marked as a prohibited offer — a different file serves: the list of prohibited offers.

What the register does not show

It does not show domains. The rows hold company names and types of gambling game, not web addresses, so matching a brand to a company is yours. The opposite direction — addresses without a licence — the regulator keeps separately: the list of prohibited offers.

Nor does it show who stands behind which brand. The rows hold business names, not website names, and the other side of the market has the same problem: of the nine foreign documents we read, the company is named differently from the brand in all nine. So the matching is yours both ways.

Nor does it show payout conditions. Those sit in each operator's own document, and the numbers we copied from them for ten foreign brands stand in payout limits.

And finally: the register speaks of the state at the date on it. Ours is from 1 September 2026. How we watch such a document for changes is in how we read documents. Who was added between two editions is read off by comparing them, and that is the only reliable way to find a new online casino with a Slovak licence.
